Through comparison with remote sensing data and through the analysis of lunar soil maturity, the water volume of Chang'e-5 provides a reference for the distribution of surface water in the lunar mid-latitudes. We conclude that minerals in lunar soil are important reservoirs, and the formation and retention of water originating from the solar wind occurs on airless bodies.
